Brazil (42 %), Mexico (17 %), and Venezuela (11 %) are the three main oil producers in Latin America.
According to data from the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE in Spanish), oil production in Latin America and the Caribbean increased to 318 million barrels (Mbbl) in April 2026. That is, 10% more than in the same period of the previous year.
The three countries that lead the production ranking contribute to the balance of the energy market. “In April 2026, 54% of the total value of oil imports in Latin America and the Caribbean corresponded to intraregional trade. The remaining percentage came from markets outside the region.”
According to the OLACDE report, by this year the region’s proven crude oil reserves “would fall to 334 billion barrels” and regional production would be 4 billion barrels.
According to the organization, with these extraction levels, the duration of proven reserves would be 87 years.
