The European Union to increase investment in AI and other technologies

The EU will allocate more than €307 million to the development of artificial intelligence and other technologies, as a further step towards digital sovereignty and the region's competitiveness

The European Union’s investment in new technologies, including AI, will exceed €307 million this year, of which €221.8 million will be allocated to an initial funding line focused on the development of secure AI systems.

This investment also covers “advanced data services and technological applications in areas such as quantum technologies, photonics, and virtual environments, as well as digital solutions applicable to various sectors.”

Furthermore, over €40 million is earmarked for the development of infrastructure and applications linked to the “Open Internet Stack” initiative, whose goal is to reduce technological dependence on external providers by promoting digital solutions developed in Europe.

The second phase involves allocating €85.5 million to projects in digital and emerging technologies, with a focus on next-generation artificial intelligence agents, “robotics applied to industry and services, and the development of new materials with advanced sensing capabilities.”
