Spotify integrates private messaging for sharing music and podcasts

The streaming platform Spotify now allows users to use private messaging to share favorite songs or podcasts directly from the app with friends

Spotify now allows users to use the new Messages feature to share music, podcasts, and audiobooks with friends.

According to the platform, the tool is available on mobile devices and “will be rolling out to select markets.” In any case, you won’t need to leave the app to send these messages to friends and share the desired content.

The app has indicated that from DMs, you can “share songs, podcast episodes, and audiobooks directly from the Now Playing view.” In addition to those audio links, messaging supports text and emoji reactions, so it’s not just a button to send a link: the idea is to have short conversations about what you’re listening to.”

Content received via messaging is saved in a Messages inbox within the user profile so that users can “find recommendations again without having to search for them in their history on external apps.”

Spotify has clarified that the feature is not exclusive to Premium customers, so it is also available for Free accounts on the mobile version, although the rollout will be gradual and limited by country in this initial phase.

Sharing content easily and securely

The tool works similarly to other platforms and social networks: just go to the “share” icon on the playback screen and select who you want to send the content to. You can also start a conversation with people “who are on your Family or Duo plan, or with whom you’ve made Jams, Blends, or collaborative playlists.”

The request can be accepted or rejected; you can also block a user or disable Messages. The platform emphasized security above all else, with end-to-end encryption and proactive scanning for illicit or harmful content, in addition to addressing user reports.
