UN to cut aid programs due to lack of funding
The United Nations announced cuts to its aid programs due to a lack of funding, especially from the United States
The United Nations’ humanitarian aid programs will suffer drastic cuts due to a lack of funding, especially from the United States.
With this cut, the organization’s aid to various countries for medicines, food, and vaccines will be slashed, impacting those most in need.
The decision was announced Monday by the UN, stating that “the new aid plan has a budget of $29 billion, far from the $44 billion the UN requested for 2025.”
New ways have been outlined to prioritize UN plans “to assist 114 million people worldwide instead of the initial plan of 180 million,” according to a statement from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
In relation to the humanitarian aid cuts, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) also announced the elimination of approximately 3,500 jobs.
