US to form first-ever crypto subcommittee

The Senate is preparing to launch its first digital assets' committee, which could be chaired by Republican Cynthia Lummis

The US Senate Banking Committee is preparing for a major announcement regarding the creation of a cryptocurrency subcommittee, according to Fox Business.

According to this news outlet, the Senate will soon announce the launch of said committee, which could be chaired by Republican Cynthia Lummis.

The subcommittee will be part of the Senate Banking Committee, chaired by Tim Scott, and “will specialize in the topic of digital assets and related areas.”

The country’s House of Representatives, for its part, already has its own subcommittee specializing in digital assets, “a space that has been instrumental in moving bills related to the asset class,” according to The Block. It is part of the House Financial Services Committee, which has already approved “two key committee bills, one that regulates stablecoins at the federal level and another that takes a more comprehensive approach to regulating cryptocurrency, called FIT21.”
