Unemployment in Colombia fell to 9.1 % in October

According to figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), in October the unemployment rate fell to 9.1 %

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) published the unemployment figures for the month of October, showing a drop in the index and placing it at 9.1 %.

The figure “represents a slight improvement compared to the numbers presented, for the same date, during 2023, when a level of 9.2 % was obtained,” said Dane.

According to the director of the entity, Piedad Urdinola, this percentage represents an unemployed population of 2,351,000 people. “Despite this, a good news item from this recent report states that while the number of unemployed is rising slightly, the number of jobs seems to be moving at a faster pace, as it rose by around 311,000 new employees between October 2023 and October 2024.”

Between 2023 and 2024, the economic sectors that have generated the most jobs in Colombia are commerce, manufacturing and construction. The sectors with the opposite trend are the public sector, professional activities, accommodation and food.
