APEC 2024 Forum to be held in Peru from November 13 to 15

From November 13 to 15, the APEC 2024 Forum will be held in Peru, host for the third time, bringing together representatives from 22 countries to address economic issues

Peru will host the APEC 2024 Summit for the third time, from November 13 to 15, with the participation of the member countries: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam.

The summit is chaired by Fernando Zavala, president of the APEC CEO Summit 2024 and CEO of Intercorp. From the end of 2023 and throughout 2024, the host country has the responsibility of “organizing more than 160 meetings” adhering to the work calendar and the practices and standards of the forum.

The forum was created in 1989 in order to promote open trade between members, as well as economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific axis. Currently, it represents 54 % of the world’s GDP and 44% of global trade.

Peru hosted APEC in 2008 and 2016. In 2024, it once again has the responsibility of hosting representatives of the world’s 22 leading economies, with the opportunity to promote itself as an “attractive destination for investment, trade, tourism, and business.”

It is expected that through the 160 meetings on the agenda, in which representatives from the business sector, trade and foreign relations participate, they will promote post-pandemic economic recovery and encourage “income opportunities for sectors linked to lodging, transportation, food, tourism, among others.”

APEC Peru 2024 will be the ideal framework for “the exchange of successful cases and good practices in the application of public policies in matters such as inclusive trade and investment; innovation to promote the transition to the formal and global economy; food security; the internationalization of SMEs; the economic empowerment of women; the digital economy and financial inclusion; the use of renewable energies and green hydrogen.”
