YouTube will test a shared subscription plan for two people in the same Google family in India, France, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
The goal is to present a more affordable alternative to YouTube Premium. “This new plan seeks to offer a more affordable solution for those who don’t need to pay for the full family plan, but still want to share an account with someone close to them, such as a partner or roommate.”
The decision responds to requests from the video platform’s users for more flexible models for digital subscriptions. It will be implemented simply: “both users must be registered in the same Google family group, a requirement that YouTube already uses for its family plan.”
Once this information is verified, customers will enjoy Premium benefits in their personal accounts, which will not require sharing passwords or profiles. “This model also allows for separate recommendations, history, and playlists, which is key to shared use.”
