The Chinese company ahead of the one created by Steve Jobs, during the third quarter of the year, with a total of 44.4 million units sold

Xiaomi surpassed Apple in the sale of mobile phones globally during the third quarter of 2020 and is among the top three providers of smartphones globally.

Among the top five mobile phone manufacturers, the South Korean company Samsung ranked first with a 22 % market share and more than 80 million units sold, followed by the Chinese company Huawei, with 14.1 % and more. of 51.8 million.

For its part, Xiaomi overtook Apple for the first time in the third quarter and positioned itself in third place with a market share of 12.1 % and around 44.4 million units sold, compared to 40.5 million of Apple units, which represents a decrease of 0.6 % compared to 2019, and a market share of 11.1 %, according to a Gartner study.

“The slight decrease was mainly due to the delay in the start of Apple’s shipment of its new generation of iPhones, which in previous years always starts in the middle or end of September. This year, the launch event and shipment start started four weeks later than usual”, said Annette Zimmermann, research vice president to Gartner.

Likewise, the Chinese company Oppo is in fifth place with a market share of 8.2 % and a total of 29.8 million units sold.
