WiFi: 20 years of wireless connectivity

A group of companies joined in September 1999 to create the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA) brand, currently WiFi Alliance, to promote wireless technology compatible with different equipment

Free connection, practically with no limit, is the offer of the WiFi Alliance company. The popular WiFi – or Wireless Fidelity – emerged 20 years ago with the integration of a pool of companies focused on promoting communication and transmission of data at high speed, wirelessly, and allowing several devices to be connected at the same time.

Undoubtedly, this innovation caused a revolution in the way of communicating at the time. Smartphone users and those who daily need to handle high data and file flows, saw how suddenly the floodgates opened to the information superhighway without signal cut, quickly and simultaneously on multiple channels.

The launch of this technology contributed to the reduction of costs in the supply of services. This year WiFi has offered updates. In fact, the most recent is WiFi 6, with a technological base similar to its predecessor. In this regard, the Cisco company carried out interoperability tests with Broadcom, Intel and Samsung for the first WiFi 6 device in the industry: the Samsung Galaxy S10.

WiFi 6 offers high security standards, opening of the 6 GHz band, amplitude of types and uses of devices, safer and more efficient roaming, improvements in the user experience, among others, as well as the support to the operators to provide high quality service to the customer.

Wireless connectivity is here to stay and passed from the individuals to factories, companies, airports, stadiums, hospitals, automotive industry and an infinity of spaces that are now interconnected.
