Volkswagen will guarantee employment during the next 10 years

The automobile company reached an agreement with its employees to offer them job opportunities to enter the early retirement plans

Volkswagen has guaranteed the volume of current employment over the next ten years as part of the agreement with its workers, although it is oriented to early retirement plans.

This has been assured by the director of Human Resources of the automotive firm, Gunnar Kilian, and the chairman of the works council, Bernd Osterloh, in a meeting with more than 10,000 workers at the Wolfsburg plant in Germany. “No one has to worry about losing his job at Volkswagen,” they have sentenced.

However, Osterloh has announced that they will continue to advance in the next stage of early retirement, by which workers born in 1962 and wishing to appear in an early retirement of six years – coinciding with the retirement age of 63 years -, can already talk with the Human Resources department.

For his part, Kilian said that around 6,200 employees in “superfluous” areas have already been adapted in a “socially compatible” way. Approximately 9,000 workers have already signed the early retirement agreements in the previous stages, which has allowed the company to create 3,200 new positions in areas aimed at satisfying the demand caused by technological changes.

This focus on the future of the business includes an investment of up to 4,000 million euros in digitization projects, their commitment to achieve the climate targets agreed in Paris, the investment of 900 million euros in the manufacture of batteries. With all this, the company expects to reach 840,000 units annually at the Wolfsburg plant.
