Venezuela to create a central bank of cryptocurrencies

The initiative is part of the amendments proposed by the National Constituent Assembly to the National Constitution, which also provides for a body superior to the Supreme Court of Justice

Venezuela already has its own cryptocurrency, the Petro. Currently, members of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) work on reforms to the current National Constitution, which includes the creation of a Central Bank Crypto.

This was recently announced by the constitutional lawyer Hermann Escarrá, who assured that the current Central Bank will be maintained, “with its functions in exchange, monetary and financial policy and will incorporate the Central Bank Crypto.”

The changes to the Constitution will be presented in a period of 35 days, and include a greater economic opening to foreign investment in the oil sector.

The opening to investment will extend to key sectors of the national economy and basic companies of iron, steel, aluminum and gold, among others.

Likewise, the ANC will propose the creation of a tribunal with action over the current Supreme Court of Justice. “The court of constitutional guarantees is pre-eminent on the Supreme Court,” Escarrá said.
