Venezuela launches protection measures on social, economic and labor fields

With a general bank moratorium, Maduro announces the economic emergency decree to deal with the effects of Covid-19

The National Executive announced to the country this Sunday on a radio and television broadcast new measures to “radicalize the national quarantine” and definitively cut the propagation thread in the central region of the country where the highest rate of contagion has been generated.

Maduro explained that in a period of six months a general moratorium on the commercial portfolio of banks will be applied, as well as a special financing plan for small industries, with a State guarantee. He also decreed for the same period of time the suspension of the payment of rentals for main house and commercial facilities, and extended labor immobility in force until December 31st.

In addition, as a mandatory protection measure, he urged the Venezuelan population to wear the mask and gloves when moving around the streets.

As for economic matters, the president announced that a special financing plan will be implemented to guarantee the production of seven essential items and thus maintain the supply of the CLAP, which is considered a “strategic program” for the benefit of Venezuelans.

According to the statements of the Executive, these measures are part of a national program implemented in the country on March 16 and which has managed to cut the chain of contagion of the Covid-19 by a “very high percentage”. He assures that the number of certified cases in the country translates to 77, so he highlighted the success of his radical strategy of social isolation.
