Venezuela intends to take the petro to OPEC

The president of PDVSA, Manuel Quevedo, announced that a commission will take the proposal for the first half of next year

Venezuela announced that it will propose in the first semester of 2019 to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to use petro as the currency of negotiations.

This was stated by the president of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), Manuel Quevedo, from the headquarters of the Superintendence of Cryptocurrencies (SUNACRIP) where he indicated that the company intends to sell its products with the local cryptocurrency.

“We will use petro in OPEC as a solid and reliable currency to market our crude in the world,” said Quevedo. On the other hand, he stressed that the digital asset will be the unit of accounts of PDVSA.

The president of the oil company added that the petro “is the guarantee of growth and prosperity in the economic recovery of the nation.”

Quevedo also called on airlines and shipping companies and other economic players to open their accounts in petros, given that this cryptocurrency is the economic future of the country.
