Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil indicated on Monday, January 12, that he held a telephone conversation with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani to discuss elevating diplomatic missions to the rank of ambassadors.

Gil noted that since 2019, “the highest-ranking representative of the European country in Caracas has been a chargé d’affaires.” The bilateral work agenda between Venezuela and Italy could lead to positive announcements in the coming days.
For his part, Tajani stated that “the Italian government will elevate the level of its relations with Venezuela and appoint an ambassador following the release of two Italians who had been imprisoned in the South American country.”
