USA will continue to fight against climate change

Despite no longer being part of the Paris Agreement, the US government will continue "looking for a realistic and pragmatic model"

The United States ratified before the plenary session of the Climate Summit (COP25) held in Madrid that it will abandon the Paris Agreement in November 2020, but points out that it will continue “looking for a realistic and pragmatic model” to fight against climate change.

“Our last day as part of the Paris Agreement is November 4, 2020, but we will continue to look for a realistic and pragmatic model, backed by a history of real results,” said the representative of the American country at the world meeting, Marcia Bernicat, Undersecretary of Oceans and International Policy of Environmental and Scientific Affairs.

As he explained, the US model in the fight against climate change has determined that “innovation and open markets” generate “greater prosperity, less emissions and safer sources of energy,” so they will remain on that line.

The United States will also remain committed, with the help of its “global partners”, to “increase resilience, mitigate the effect of climate change and prepare for natural disasters.”

In this regard, he recalled that the country’s investment in R & D & I generates advances in sectors such as natural gas, solar, nuclear, natural coal or biofuel and increases energy efficiency and storage. He also highlighted how their laboratories allow “a better understanding of the environment” and their satellites help with fire and deforestation, in addition to predicting and preventing weather events, among other collaborations.
