USA and Canada begin campaign against fraud by cryptocurrencies

Regulatory groups of both nations launched a "coordinated series of research on ICOs and investment products related to digital assets"

During an event held by the Association of Securities Administrators of North America (NASAA) a group of securities regulators from Canada and the United States showed an initiative named “Operation Cryptosweep“, with which they intend to give an “international offensive” against the scams by cryptocurrencies.

In communications from the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) and the Texas State Securities Board (TSSB), it was explained that Cryptosweep constitutes “almost 70 investigations and 35 enforcement actions pending or completed since the beginning of the month.”

Since April, members of NASAA have convened a working group “to begin a coordinated series of research on ICOs and investment products related to cryptocurrencies,” according to the TDCI.

Frank Borger-Gilligan, assistant commissioner of the TDCI said that these actions “are just the tip of the iceberg”, words endorsed Joseph R otunda, director of the Application Division of the TSSB, who said that “the investment market in cryptocurrencies is saturated of widespread fraud”, so that “efforts will be strengthened in combating fraud in regard to the field of cryptocurrencies”.
