US universities develop cryptocurrency Unit-e

Researchers are working to create a new and improved cryptocurrency, which will have better properties to compete with bitcoin

Prestigious universities such as Stanford and Berkeley from California, ensure that the network they are developing will have the capacity to process approximately 10,000 transactions per second, surpassing current properties offered by the bitcoin blockchain.

The project is directed by the non-profit organization Distributed Technology Research (DTR), for the development of decentralized technologies. It is integrated by researchers funded by Pantera Capital Management LP.

The new digital currency will be called the Unit-e and is being developed by professors from seven universities in the United States. It is the first initiative promoted by Distributed Technology Research (DTR).

Researchers are applying the Sharding protocol, a process used to ensure that each node by itself contains a part of the data in the blockchain network and not all the information, making the new networks and payment channels much faster.

The launching of Unit-e is expected for the second half of 2019 and it suposed to have a capacity up to 10,000 transactions per second, which exceeds the one of the Visa interbank platform.
