US Senate approved reinstatement of net neutrality
The debate will move to the House of Representatives, where Democrats need support from Republicans, even though the initiative may be vetoed by President Trump
With the support of the entire Democratic bloc and three Republican votes, the United States Senate voted in favor of restoring net neutrality, a principle whereby the traffic of all types of data must be treated without discrimination by the Internet providers.
This debate will move to the House of Representatives, where Democrats need 25 Republicans to support them. In addition, it is expected that if the initiative prospers, President Donald Trump to exercise his veto power.
The neutrality in the law network was approved in 2015 under the mandate of Barack Obama and its repeal was announced by the Federal Communications Commission in mid-December. Now, when the new regulation comes into force, Internet service providers will be able to block or slow down at their leisure the access to any web page regardless of its content, including media or video platforms.
