US sanctions against Venezuela affect bilateral trade

Since January, the government of Donald Trump has been promoting a series of measures against Nicolás Maduro and his administration

After the various sanctions imposed by the US government against Nicolás Maduro and various Venezuelan companies, trade between these two countries has been affected by 60%.

This was indicated by the Department of Commerce of the United States, which presented the effects of the sanctions against PDVSA applied by the Donald Trump government since mid January.

In February, as a result of such measures,Venezuela barely made import and export operations calculated at 534 million dollars, down from 1,319 million registered the previous month.

The figure is the result of a collapse in both Venezuelan sales and purchases due to the sanctions that have been in place since January 28th and that prevent Petróleos de Venezuela from trading crude and its derivatives with companies and US citizens.

As a result, Venezuelan imports were reduced by 125 million dollars, 62% less than the previous month, mainly due to the decrease in purchases of petroleum derivatives.
