US inflation falls to 1.8% in May

This was indicated by the data published by the labor statistics office of the US Department of Labor

The consumer price index (CPI) of the United States stood last May at 1.8% year-on-year, which is two tenths less than the previous month, according to data published on Wednesday by the office of labor statistics of the Labor Department of the North American country.

In comparison with the same month of 2018, energy prices registered a decrease of 0.5%, compared to the 1.7% increase of the previous month. For its part, the rise in food prices has accelerated to 2%, two tenths more than in April.

Thus, core inflation, which excludes the price of food and energy from its calculation given its greater volatility, stood at 2%, one tenth less than that recorded during the month of April.

In monthly terms, inflation in the United States rose by 0.1% in the fifth month of the year, two tenths less than the rate observed in April, while core inflation remained stable for the fourth consecutive month in 0,1%.
