Uruguay is the best on communications in Latin America
The IDB conducted a research in 26 countries in the region, where the advantages and strengths of telecommunications and connectivity were seen
A study conducted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) showed that Uruguay has a great advance in terms of mobile telephony and connections to the 4G network.
This analysis, entitled The evolution of mobile telecommunications in Latin America and the Caribbean, covered at least 26 countries in the region, with Uruguay being the most prominent among them all.
For the IDB, the advance of telecommunications and access to broadband are essential to achieve sustainable cities and communities.
This research focused on the deployment of technology and how users adopted it, in addition to the trends that existed between 2000 and 2017 with the incorporation of mobile telephony.
Although during this period of time there was an exponential growth in mobile phone subscribers, from 10% to more than 70%, with respect to 4G technology only 20% have migrated to it, something that slows down the use of the latest digital applications.
This is where Uruguay stands out as one of the nations with the greatest use of the 4G network, with an adoption rate of over 50%, while in the second place are Argentina and Chile with 40% and Brazil almost reaching that figure.
The study suggests that nations have the great challenge of encouraging investors to focus on technological areas and also reduce the gap in existing populations.
“It is not possible to think of infrastructure devices for smart meters, smart green buildings or disaster coordination centers throughout the city without modern telecommunications services“, according to the study.
