Unemployment rate in the US remained at 3.7%

The figure places this indicator near the minimum recorded since 1969, according to the Department of Labor

The US unemployment rate remained stable in July, at 3.7%, so it was close to the minimum since 1969, according to data published Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the US Department of Labor.

Specifically, the North American country created a total of 130,000 non-agricultural jobs in the eighth month of the year, compared to 159,000 in July, driven by the hiring of temporary workers by the Government to prepare the country’s census in 2020.

The number of long-term unemployed, those who have been unemployed for a minimum of 27 weeks, rose to 1,243 million people, equivalent to an increase of 77,000 unemployed. With respect to the total unemployed it rose by more than one percentage point, that is to 20.6%.

The total number of unemployed people stood at 6.04 million, so it fell by 19,000 unemployed in August. On the other hand, the participation rate in the labor market picked up two tenths, reaching 63.2%. With respect to July, the active population grew by 571,000 people.

By groups of workers, the unemployment rate among women was reduced by one tenth, to 3.3%, while unemployment among men remained stable at 3.4%. On the other hand, the unemployment rate of young people decreased to 12.6%, which is equivalent to a decrease of two tenths compared to July.
