Unemployment rate in Mexico stands at 5.1 %

Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography showed that unemployment in the region has begun to decrease

Mexico’s unemployment rate stood at 5.1 % in September, representing a total of 2.7 million unemployed people, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

The employment data of the Aztec country indicate that according to the evolution of the pandemic in the country, the measures for the gradual reactivation of businesses and companies in non-essential economic activities, there was an incorporation of 621,000 people to the country’s workforce, going from 53.2 million to 53.8 million.

Thus, of the 12 million people who left the Mexican labor force in April, around 8.4 million joined in September.

For its part, the employed population was 51.1 million people in September, 670,000 more people than in August, which is almost entirely included in people who worked days between 15 and 34 hours (638,000 people).

On the other hand, 28 million people were in a situation of informal employment, which represents 54.9% of the work in Mexico and a decrease of 0.2 percentage points with respect to the previous month.
