Twitter modifies the user account verification system
The most used social network in the world announced the implementation of the measure in the configuration section of the platform
Twitter will recover the requests for user account verification with the publication of the guidelines that will guide the company’s decision and a new system implemented directly in the configuration section of the platform.
The account verification gives a profile a blue mark indicating that that account is of public interest and that the person managing it is who it claims to be. However, the system the company used generated controversy when in 2017 it was discovered that it had granted the brand to Jason Kessler, organizer of the supremacist march in Charlottesville, in the United States, which ended in the death of one person.
Twitter then decided to pause its verification system until it found a way to improve it, and focus it on political and health authorities. The new feature to request account verification has been found in the ‘Account’ configuration options, in the ‘Personal information’ section, as engineer Jane Manchun Wong shared on her Twitter profile.
This feature, not yet available to the public, will be accompanied by a guide detailing the reasons why a user of the social network can be verified, as indicated by Twitter to TechCrunch.
