With a new extension to TikTok’s operating time limit in the United States, approved by President Donald Trump, a new round of negotiations is expected.
The Chinese video platform will be able to continue operating until September 17; this means that users will not have to delete their drafts, that choreographies will remain, and that “storytimes” will continue to appear uninterrupted.
As is known, the president has postponed the implementation of the law twice before. “Technically, TikTok should have shut down in January of this year if there was no progress toward a sale.”
According to White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, “this extension is on a solid legal basis and gives us more time to close a good deal. The curious thing is that everything also depends on China’s approval,” all amid the dispute over mutual tariffs.
