Trump delays EU tariffs until July 9

The implementation of 50 % tariffs on the European Union by US President Donald Trump was postponed until July 9, following a telephone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

This Sunday, the United States announced its decision to postpone the implementation of 50% tariffs on the European Union until July 9, following a telephone conversation between President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Trump’s press conference, the EU official wants serious negotiations on the matter. The president added: “July 9th would be the day; that was the date he requested. Could we change it from June 1st to July 9th? I agreed.”

The US president had planned for this 50 % tariff on the EU to take effect on June 1st.

Ursula von der Leyen had already made public the EU’s desire to negotiate with the US, as both regions “share the most important and close trading relationship in the world.”
