Trump defends his position before the impeachment

The US president says that "one of the best things he has done" since he arrived at the White House was to oppose to this process

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, considered that his resistance to the parliamentary impeachment process is “one of the best things” he has done since he arrived at the White House and, although he pointed out that it is up to the Senate to establish the criteria of the political trial, ¨he agreed that the appearance of some witnesses could pose a risk.

Trump has referred to the process during a press conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), from which he has reiterated that he is the victim of a “witch hunt” led by “bad and corrupt people”, alluding to the Democrats that control the House of Representatives, the starting point of the impeachment.

The Senate on Tuesday set the rules of the trial against Trump, accused of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Republicans have enforced their majority to overthrow the Democratic proposals and propose a rapid and witness-free process that could be resolved in just one week, according to the estimated schedule.

“I would have preferred the long form,” Trump said, in favor of “many people” being interviewed, including his former National Security ex-advisor John Bolton. “The problem with John is that there is a national security problem,” he said, thus justifying the veto imposed by the Administration on any movement in this regard.

The president said his former ally knows his political strategy and the impression he has of other countries and governments. “What would happen if he reveals what I think about a certain leader and it is not very positive?,” said Trump, who recalled that Bolton “did not leave in good manners” in the White House in September.
