Trump asks the Federal Reserve to lower interest
The US president called on the Fed to resume the quantitative relief program to weaken the exchange rate against other currencies
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, asked the Federal Reserve, the US central bank, a new reduction of interest rates and to resume its quantitative relief program to weaken the exchange rate against other currencies and boost American exports.
“It would be great if the Fed lowered interest rates and quantitative relief,” the US president said through his Twitter account.
In this regard, Trump said the dollar “is very strong against other currencies and there is almost no inflation. It is time to do so. Exports would skyrocket!”.
Last week, at his last meeting in 2019, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the United States Federal Reserve (EDF) decided to keep interest rates in a target range between 1.50% and 1,75%.
Likewise, the US central bank updated its macroeconomic forecasts and the evolution of interest rates, reflecting that the central scenario of the issuing institute suggests that interest rates will be in 2020 between 1.6% and 1.9 %, compared to the previous range between 1.6% and 2.1%.
Regarding macroeconomic developments, the Fed maintained its GDP growth forecast for 2019, 2020 and 2021 at 2.2%, 2% and 1.9%, respectively.
