The statement notes that the personal data of children under the age of 13 was used without parental consent and that TikTok did not carry out adequate checks to verify who is using the platform, nor did it take sufficient steps to remove minors from it.
Although it was concluded in the ICO investigation that some senior company officials were concerned about the use of the platform by minors and failing to remove children under the age of 13, TikTok did not provide adequate responses.
