The new feature that the social network Threads is testing will allow iOS users to share their location through a tag in posts.
In an attempt to emulate Instagram, the platform launched this test, through which it will “allow to display information such as, for example, the name of the city, a restaurant or a museum.”
In this way, the microblogging network is moving forward in terms of new features to improve the user experience. They consider that sharing more information in posts is a way to boost interaction between users with location tags.
Through this new feature, Threads users will be able to place tags on “cities, emblematic places or specific locations, such as restaurants.”
Users participating in the test have pointed out to The Verge and Engadget that the function does not share or reveal the exact location of the person on a map, “but rather allows the user to add approximate information to the location, related to the content being published and from where it is being shared.”
The function is activated once the user clicks on the option to add a location, “the app displays a list of nearby places in real time from which a location can be chosen to tag. Likewise, users can enter the name of a place manually and choose from the available options.”
Regarding the new function, the parent company Meta has indicated that it will also be used to offer personalized content “and show users more related posts about the tagged places.” They clarified that the user can deactivate the option whenever they want in Settings.
