The United States will impose new tariffs on the UE

The measure issued from Washington will be impose 10% in supplementary tariffs on European aircraft and 25% on other products as for October 18th

The US government announced that on October 18th it will apply new tariffs to the European Union after the approval received by the World Trade Organization (OMC) who, hours before the announcement of the new measure, had already authorized Washington to impose tariffs on $ 7.5 billion, as reported in a statement by US Foreign Trade Chief Robert Lighthizer, who said “the United States will begin imposing OMC-approved tariffs on certain UE goods as of October 18.”

The statement also details that additional tariffs of 10% will be applied to European aircraft and 25% to the rest of the products. It is expected that the latter will largely affect products from Spain, Germany and United Kingdom, among which we can mention: fresh cheese, olives, olive oil and pig products; also French wine and yogurts, butter, cherries and peaches from many European countries.

The countries that will be more affected are France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom, the “four countries responsible for illegal subsidies,” according to the Office of Foreign Trade.

After a certain ruling in favor of the OMC in its lawsuit for the collaborations to the Airbus aeronautics, Trump considers “it is a great triumph for the USA. You had never had such victories with other presidents, right? We are now having many triumphs in the OMC.”

The OMC dispute between the European Union and the United States, which began 15 years ago, presumes a tariff war between the two nations, although the White House has remained is open to negotiate and has asked the commercial body to set a meeting on October 14 to formally authorize such US contributions.
