The PS2 celebrates 20 years of being launched

The Sony console, the best selling of its kind in history, has sold over 155 million units over the years

This Wednesday marks 20 years since Sony released its PlayStation 2 (PS2) console, the second version of its desktop video game device, which is currently the best-selling console of this type in history, with more of 155 million units.

PlayStation 2 debuted on March 4, 2000 in Japan and took more than six months to be available in the rest of the world, arriving in North America on October 26 and, one month later, on November 24, in Europe.

Since its arrival in the market in 2000, PS2 offered backward compatibility with the video games of its predecessor, the original PlayStation, and with its DualShock controller, but with a series of technical improvements.

Among the improvements is compatibility with CDs and DVDs for the first time, as well as an 8MB memory card that could be expanded and an Emotion Engine processor with 300 MHz and 6.2 Gigaflops. This allowed him to support video games with a more powerful graphic load than the original PS, with games up to 1080i resolution.
