The new Google assistant reads the texts of the applications

The new feature allows to know and respond to WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack and Messenger content without opening apps

Google updated its voice assistant, in its English version and now allows its users to ask it to read the messages they receive in various messaging applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Slack, Discord and GroupMe.

The emerging assistant not only allows to receive messages but also to reply them without opening the application. The system reads the message out loud, including the application it comes from and the name of the sender. Next, the user will have the option to write or dictate an answer.

At the moment the service is only available in English. To have it, the assistant should be told “read my messages”. Previously, the system asks the user for permission to access mobile notifications.

The device shows the following message: “Google will be able to read all notifications, including personal information, such as contact names and the text of the messages it receives. Also, you can dismiss notifications or activate the action buttons they contain. This will also give the application the ability to enable or disable Do Not Disturb and change related settings.”

Once permission is granted, the assistant is ready to go. After allowing access, a menu is displayed in which all applications that the user wants the device to read, including SMS, Whatsapp, Telegram, can be selected.
