Teenage novel about programming, cryptography and AI launched in Spain

The novel combines basic notions of programming, cryptography and Artificial Intelligence with the daily experiences of preadolescents of 13 years

Mara Turing and the awakening of hackers” is a novel of fiction with touches of mystery written by Javier Padilla, aimed primarily at youngsters between 12 and 16 years. The author breaks the stereotypes and places a girl named Mara as a hacker.

Mara Turing lost her father before she was born. Her uncle Arnold Turing cared for her until he disappeared, leaving no trace, when she was five years old. Six years later, a mysterious voice interrupts the music she was listening to and it was her uncle, who asks for her help and sends her clear instructions that she has to become a hacker soon.

Later, with the help of her friends Noa and Daniel, Mara Turing faces the most dangerous side of computer hacking, cracking, Artificial Intelligence and robotics which is the starting point of the novel.

The book is well written, enjoyable and easy to read. It combines some basic programming lessons, cryptography and Artificial Intelligence with the usual problems of 13 year old boys and girls. Although some dialogues can be childish, precisely because of the audience to which it is addressed, in general the plot of the story is interesting and entertaining.

The author, Javier Padilla, studied journalism and worked at ABC until 2011, where he worked in the editorial departments and the Internet. At present, he defines himself as an entrepreneur, since over the last few years he has co-founded several Internet companies such as ElDesmarque, Ten-Golf, Nabumbu and iMagicBox.

To conclude, Padilla argues that he is already working on the plot of the second book he expects will be released by the end of the summer of 2019. At the moment, it is already on sale “Mara Turing and the awakening of hackers” at a price of 14,95 euros in Spain.
