The social network Taringa is the main Argentine platform, with penetration in other countries of Latin America, Spain and the United States. As part of its expansion plan towards the field of blockchain technology and autonomy, it has just announced that they are working on their own cryptocurrency.
Taringa Coin will be the cryptographic currency of the social network that offers its more than 100 million monthly visitors general interest news about sports, music, movies, among others.
According to information published in the Argentine newspaper Perfil, Matías Botbol -one of the founders of Taringa- the social network “aspires to be, in 5 years, the first in the world to incorporate blockchain.” The first step in this regard is the launch of its own cryptocurrency.
Botbol stressed that they want to become a reference in terms of decentralized technology. Taringa-Coin will be used for a variety of transactions: “From rewarding a publication to distributing profits or offering exclusive features to users. It can also be used in donation campaigns. And it will be a currency that, in some way, can be exchanged for real world money.”
In the medium term and step by step Taringa would stop controlling the entire structure to allow greater participation of users through decision making. The idea is that if the founders leave the platform the community itself makes it work with their contribution.
