Taiwan optimizes medical records with blockchain technology
The country carried out various analyzes and tests since April to improve its medical records platform through decentralized layer technology
On August 31st, the Hospital of the Medical University of Taipei launched the platform called “Healthcare Blockchain Platform” that seeks to improve the maintenance of medical records in the city and the country.
According to information published in the Taipei Times, the tool was developed “to support the government’s hierarchical medical system policy, improve patient referral services and integrate individual health care networks to allow people to access their medical records in an easier way”.
They also hope to optimize the registration process for patients, who will have access through a password-protected mobile application.
The project involved more than 100 clinics where decentralized layer technology is applied in areas such as data transfer between medical facilities and patient portals, which include clinical information, high resolution images, laboratory results. Institutions may share this data through intelligent contracts.
The blockchain technology will ensure the confidentiality and inviolability of the information, in addition to keeping the patient’s medical data in electronic records that will allow the creation of a medical big data ecosystem in Taiwan.
