Spain will apply new diesel tax at the beginning of 2019
The Spanish Government studies the transition towards a more ecological panorama, within the discussion of the General State Budgets for 2019
Spaniards will face an increase in the diesel tax on January 1st, 2019. The measure enters the draft discussion of the General State Budget, which will be announced next month.
According to statements by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, it has been defined as “good tax”, since it will be used to combat climate change.
In this regard, he said: “We face an important challenge in the fight against climate change, which for us is a national project.”
For his part, Álvaro Nadal, Minister of Energy, clarified that the proposed amount for the new diesel tax is 28.6%. Once the new law is approved, vehicle owners will experience the increase in fuel prices on January 1st, 2019.
The Spanish government is working on economic policies to reduce CO2 emissions, which means that diesel will not disappear from the streets in the short term.
