Shift Card will stop operations in the United States

The Visa debit card service that allows clients to spend the cryptocurrencies in Coinbase will stop operating in April

Shift Card debits the funds directly from the Coinbase user account based on the price of the digital currency at the moment, in real time. The service had been operating in the US market for four years but now users will have few weeks to use the Visa card before the activities are suspended.

Customers received an email explaining that the company plans to close its debit card work this spring, specifically on April 11, 2019. The email details that the closure is expected to be only temporary and that the company hopes to re-launch the program.

It should be noted that the Shift Card was launched in 2015 and allows people to spend various cryptographic currencies anchored to a Coinbase account where Visa is accepted. The statement sent to each user reads: “We hope to start the program again and issue new cards in the near future. Thank you for your patience”.

However, many users remain confused after receiving the email, because no details are offered as to why the cryptographic card program is coming to an end. The measure leaves US customers, from 46 states specifically, with a single reliable option, the BitPay Visa card.
