Security is a priority for Samsung. For this reason, it has released an update for Galaxy devices that seeks to correct several bugs in Android and has urged users to install it as soon as possible.
Samsung has indicated that it is vital for users to check their phones and download the update, which basically includes a combination of Samsung-specific patches and Android updates provided by Google.
The measure was taken to attack more than 46 vulnerabilities that have been detected.
“The importance of this update cannot be underestimated, as one of the flaws (CVE-2024-21461) has been classified as critical and another (CVE-2024-36971) has been identified as a zero-day vulnerability.”
The latter refers to the fact that “cybercriminals have already discovered and are actively exploiting the flaw, which puts the security of the affected devices at risk.”
Google’s security team has indicated that given the possible threat, Samsung users should install the latest operating system update now.
This update is part of the monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) process. This is a patch package from both Google and Samsung, which strengthens the general security of Galaxy devices.
Added to this is the commitment of Samsung and Google to “offer extended software support for their latest devices. Both companies have announced that they will provide Android updates for seven years. This means that phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8a, released this year, will continue to be supported until 2031.”
