Russian Court lifts block to cryptocurrency websites

The city of St. Petersburg annulled the decision of the district court, to recognize all the information posted on sites such as Bitcoininfo.ru

A Russian court, in the city of St. Petersburg, decided to revoke the ruling of the 2016 district court, which established blocking of cryptocurrency websites such as bitcoininfo.ru.

The Russian agency reported that “The court of the city of St. Petersburg has decided to annul the decision of the district court to recognize all information posted on the website Bitcoininfo.ru”.

Also, the owner of the website indicated that the prosecution would have declared that more than a hundred websites related to cryptocurrencies would also have been blocked shortly after blocking Bitcoininfo.ru.

The decision was based on the fact that cryptocurrencies “were a means of payment and virtual accumulation” and, therefore, offering information about them would be illegal since they could have a negative effect on the nation’s FIAT currency.

For this reason, the court of the city of St. Petersburg rejected the appeals of the owners of the site to review the case, until the Supreme Court of the nation was in favor of the website.
