Russia to continue supporting Venezuela

From Moscow, the Russian capital, authorities have reaffirmed their support for Venezuela, strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas

Despite current tensions following US actions in Venezuela, Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, indicated on Thursday, February 5, that they will continue to strengthen relations with the South American country.

According to Nebenzia, “Moscow will continue to support Venezuela and reinforce its strategic partnership with the South American country”. The announcement comes in a context of international tensions, marked by new US sanctions and the UN’s call to “respect the sovereignty of nations.”

Nebenzia assured that Russia’s support for Venezuela will continue in all areas of cooperation. For his part, the Venezuelan ambassador to Moscow, Jesús Rafael Salazar Velásquez, “confirmed that the strategic partnership treaty signed in May 2025 between the two countries remains in effect and is being implemented through joint projects in energy, defense, and technological development.”

Regarding the agreements between the two countries, Salazar stated: “We will continue to implement what has been established in the treaty in all areas.”
