Repsol discovers largest gas well in Indonesia

It is the largest discovery in the Asian country in the last 18 years and one of the main worldwide in the field of hydrocarbons

Repsol made an important discovery in Indonesia in the hydrocarbons sector. The KBD-2X gas well is considered the most important of the last 18 years in the Asian country and one of the most notable in the world.

The well has an estimated of 2 trillion cubic feet of gas from recoverable resources, which would represent two years of consumption only in Spain.

The discovery took place in the south of the island of Sumatra, where Repsol will continue working during 2019 in the delineation of the field. The Spanish company must define the guidelines of the project with the authorities of Indonesia, one of its main investment markets.

In fact, Spain already has several licenses in Sumatra and plans to carry out a strong drilling and seismic campaign in the period 2019-2020.

It is important to note that in 2017, “Repsol produced 15 million barrels of oil equivalent in Indonesia, mainly through the Corridor asset, and holds mining rights in six blocks, five exploration blocks and another one for production and development.”
