Qualcomm announces its new Snapdragon 888 mobile processor

The processor will be installed in many of the high-end smartphones that will be commercialized in 2021

Qualcomm has unveiled this Tuesday its new chip for premium mobile devices, the Snapdragon 888 model, which incorporates 5G connectivity with the third generation of the X60 5G module and improves the capture of photos and videos with the ISP Spectra image processor.

The technology company has presented the new chip in the framework of its annual Snapdragon Tech Summit, which this year was held virtually, where the President of Qualcomm Incorporated, Cristiano Amon, highlighted the role that the Snapdragon 8 series mobile platforms have had in driving the experiences of the next generation of mobile devices.

This event has been the presentation framework for the new Snapdragon 888 chip, which has support for 5G networks with the third generation of the RF-System Snapdragon X60 5G modem, as reported in a statement.

This chip improves artificial intelligence processing with the sixth generation of its engine, which includes a redesigned Hexagon, to achieve 26 tera operations per second (TOPS). It also features the second-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which incorporates low-power, always-on AI processing.

The third generation of Snapdragon Elite Gaming accompanies the Adreno GPU, for renderings of up to 144 fps with Desktop Forward. In addition, the new chip incorporates the ISP Spectra image processor, which allows you to capture photos and videos at 2.7 gigapixels per second or approximately 120 photos with a resolution of 12MP, up to 35 percent faster than the previous generation.

Xiaomi Mi11 will be one of the first smartphones to integrate the new Snapdragon 888 processor. It will be present in devices that hit the market in 2021 from brands such as Asus, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, Oppo , Sharp, Vivo and ZTE.
