Sony confirmed that video games on its next-generation console, PlayStation 5, will not have region locks, ehich means that games purchased in other countries can be used.
The new Sony console will thus replicate this feature of its predecessor, PlayStation 4, which also did not apply region locks to its video games. Microsoft’s new generation of consoles, Xbox Series X and S, will also be free of restriction.
The absence of a region lock on PS5 video games means that players will be able to insert title discs purchased from other countries and play without problems.
The company confirmed this function in its latest question and answer document for the new console, in which they also discussed other features such as the compatibility of their streaming video game service PlayStation Now.
By using this service, it will be possible to play video games for several generations of Sony consoles, including some classic PlayStation 3 and 2 titles available in their catalog.
This will be one of the few ways to play these games, as the new PS5 only has support for physical PS4 games, with a few exceptions, but no backward compatibility with older consoles.
