PS4 manufacturing takes only 30 seconds

The company maintains an automated process for the manufacture of the game console, thanks to a group of robots

Sony carries out an almost completely automated process to manufacture its current PlayStation 4 console, and the company’s robots are capable of producing one unit every 30 seconds.

PlayStation 4 is assembled in a Sony Global Manufacturing and Operations factory in the Japanese city of Kisarazu that uses manufacturing robots from the also Japanese Mitsubishi, according to Nikkei.

Specifically, the PlayStation 4 production line measures 31.4 meters, and only four people are involved: two who place the motherboards in the machines and two others who package the consoles in boxes.

Through this production system, made up of 32 robots focused especially on joining parts such as cables and which also includes flexible parts, the company is able to manufacture a console approximately every 30 seconds.

According to the latest data, Sony has sold 110.4 million PlayStation 4 (PS4) worldwide since its launch, 1.5 million units during the first quarter of 2020.
