Phishing attack and cybersecurity threats have increased

Due to the quarantine, these criminal activities have grown by 6,000 % in the world

The confinement and spread of teleworking caused by the coronavirus have had major consequences for cybersecurity and only phishing scams and spam have increased more than 6,000 % since March worldwide.

The threats of phishing, together with those of ransomware, are currently the most common cyberattacks, as highlighted by the Director of Security of IBM Spain, Susana del Pozo, during the cybersecurity week organized by the technology company.

The IBM board indicated that only in the first quarter of this year cyber attacks increased by 40 % globally and 125 % in Europe.

For its part, since March, when the state of alarm began in Spain for Covid-19, a “considerable increase” in spam and scams through phishing was detected, which IBM figures at 6,000 % in all the world.

In this way, as the company collects in a statement, IBM recommends what it calls “silent security” to protect remote work and improve mechanisms against unauthorized access through detection tools based on Artificial Intelligence. To quickly identify them, these tools analyze whether the access is made from the same computer, with the same IP address or even the typing rate.
