Panama announced that it will reactivate its economy in different stages

The reactivation plan will be in stages, starting on September 7 with most of the industrial sectors; On the 14th the restriction on mobility by gender will be lifted and the safe-conduct will be without effect and on the 21st the federative sports activities will reopen

The Government of Panama announced a plan for the economic reopening in a staggered manner in the country that will start on September 7 and that will see the definitive lifting of the night curfew in force as of October 12, provided that the situation of the pandemic to keep the planned schedule.

This has been indicated by the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, in charge of publicizing the schedule of return to the planned action, the result of consensus with the private sector and conditioned on how the health situation in the country is progressing.

Panama has counted 88,381 cases and 1,919 deaths from Covid-19 so far, while 62,759 patients have already recovered. In addition, the Central American country has carried out more than 313,000 tests.

At first, on September 7, the construction industry and related activities will reopen in its entirety, as well as the Panama Pacific Special Economic Area, Colon Free Zone and free zones, private marinas and sport fishing. For that date, the reopening of clothing stores, shoe stores and car washes is also expected.

A week later, on September 14, the Government will proceed to lift the mobility restriction by gender and the safe-conduct will cease to have effect, although the curfew will be maintained between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., as well as the total quarantine on Sunday.

As of September 21, according to the newspaper La Estrella, federative sports activities will be able to resume, but without public, while on September 28 all retail trade, as well as restaurants, will be able to reopen. National flights will also resume from that day on and families will be allowed to go to beaches, rivers and natural parks.

Finally, on October 12, the curfew and Sunday quarantine will be lifted, the resumption of international flights will be authorized and hotels and other accommodations will be able to reopen. For that date the reopening of swimming pools and libraries, among others, will also be allowed.

For now, as Martínez explained, the Government does not have a scheduled date for the resumption of classes at all educational levels, as well as for the reopening of leisure establishments such as cinemas, theaters and museums, nor of gyms or discos.
