Oil companies from nine countries will dispute auction in Brazil

Brazil's "presal", a geological formation zone, was selected as the place for exploration and exploitation rights in five areas

In an auction that will be held on November 7, major oil companies in the world will enter into a bid in order to obtain exploration and exploitation rights in five areas of the Brazilian presal, one of the most coveted oil reserves where the  South American country’s government expects to raise 7,850 million reais (about 1,896 million dollars).

The list of participants who lead the auction will be made up of American multinationals, German and Chinese corporastions among others, which will be able to make proposals for the concessions. Among them are Chevron, ExxonMobil and Murphy Exploration, the British BP Energy and Shell, the Chinese corporations CNOOC and CNODC. The German company Wintershall DEA, the Qatari QPI, the Malaysian Petronas and the Brazilian Petrobras will also be present.

Although it is known that there will be 13 companies that will be present at the auction, this number is expected to increase due to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), regulatory body responsible for organizing the auction, studying new applications that will be analyzed by a commission to give an answer next October 14.

Most of the companies that will dispute some of the presal’s reserves, except Murphy and Repsol, will be in another auction to be held on November 6.
