Norwegian Air will accept bitcoins to cancel tickets

Next month the family that owns the Norwegian airline will launch its own exchange called NBX

Bitcoin payments will arrive this year at the Norwegian low-cost airline Norwegian Air after their cofounders set a date to open their own cryptocurrency exchange. Without a doubt, the Kjos family, owner of the airline, intends to start operating in its nascent NBX exchange.

NBX was already of public domain, but the launch date and crypto payment plans represent a renewed family commitment to the industry. They will also integrate the bitcoin cryptocurrency into Norwegian Air’s payment options.

The confirmation of the plans came from Stig A. Kjos-Mathisen, who will lead NBX and who is part of the board of directors of NBK Holdings, the largest Norwegian shareholder.

“First, the market will be launched. Then, NBX will make a payment solution for the airline so that customers can pay with virtual currency,” he said.

With this measure, Norwegian will join the select group of airlines willing to process payments on crypto assets, with a close competitor form Latvia: AirBaltic, which was the first in the world to start accepting them in 2014.
